- This is New Albion on Mars
- 00:36
- Every Compartment at New Albion has
- 00:39
- several refuges.
- In the event of a serious loss of
- 00:44
- pressure, the compartment end doors and
- connections will be sealed.
- 00:51
- Refuges provide a
- short-term sanctuary for anyone unable to
- 00:56
- escape before a compartment is sealed.
- 01:00
- They are also used routinely by
- construction workers while an unoccupied
- 01:06
- compartment's integrity is in doubt.
- 01:10
- Refuges are outwardly similar to other
- buildings, but are completely airtight and
- 01:17
- have airlocks complete with mating adapters.
- 01:22
- They're equipped with life support
- systems, a small amount of
- 01:26
- emergency rations and lots of fold-out bunks.
- 01:31
- We save some bunk space by
- omitting mattresses for refugees;
- 01:36
- they're not essential in
- the low gravity of Mars.
- 01:41
- In normal times refuges are
- used for residential care and
- 01:46
- minor surgical wards, so that in a pressure
- 01:49
- loss emergency there's no immediate
- need to evacuate those least mobile.
- 01:56
- In an emergency a hundred people or more
- may initially enter a refuge.
- 02:03
- Refuge drills are a great way to meet people!
