This is New Albion on Mars
00:36
Every Compartment at New Albion has
00:39
several refuges.
In the event of a serious loss of
00:44
pressure, the compartment end doors and
connections will be sealed.
00:51
Refuges provide a
short-term sanctuary for anyone unable to
00:56
escape before a compartment is sealed.
01:00
They are also used routinely by
construction workers while an unoccupied
01:06
compartment's integrity is in doubt.
01:10
Refuges are outwardly similar to other
buildings, but are completely airtight and
01:17
have airlocks complete with mating adapters.
01:22
They're equipped with life support
systems, a small amount of
01:26
emergency rations and lots of fold-out bunks.
01:31
We save some bunk space by
omitting mattresses for refugees;
01:36
they're not essential in
the low gravity of Mars.
01:41
In normal times refuges are
used for residential care and
01:46
minor surgical wards, so that in a pressure
01:49
loss emergency there's no immediate
need to evacuate those least mobile.
01:56
In an emergency a hundred people or more
may initially enter a refuge.
02:03
Refuge drills are a great way to meet people!
