This is New Albion on Mars
00:36
Like Earth, we have types of rain.
00:40
Some of our wetter conservation compartments
feature intermittent day-round drizzle.
00:46
The road through such compartments is
protected from direct rain, but mist and
00:52
spray stay airborne longer in
the low gravity of Mars.
00:57
Residential, farming, and conservation
compartments receive regular light rain,
01:03
usually in the middle of the night.
01:06
Residential compartments receive much
less rain than farming and some
01:10
conservation compartments,
usually on a Sunday night.
01:16
'Night rain' isn't strictly regular -
01:19
there's a larger window of time in which
rain will fall for a short interval.
01:25
There is a warning: a few seconds of drizzle
3 minutes before rain starts in earnest.
01:33
Compartment sprinklers can deliver flows of
water equivalent to 'cloudburst' on Earth.
01:40
Such flows are reserved for
tests and emergencies such as fire.
01:45
The one exception to this rule is the
April Rain Festival, which reminds
01:50
colonists what Earth rain was like and
to maintain their roofs.
